patches have packages not installed on the system
Hello,
Why does smpatch display patches for packages that aren't installed on the OS? Is there a way to suppress patches that I know I don't have packages installed from displaying when I do smpatch analyze or update. Or, do I need to find all the packages and install them just to clear out the list for smpatch? I have a V240 and each time I run it this is what shows:
119252-15 SunOS 5.10: System Administration Applications Patch
124188-02 SunOS 5.10: Trusted Solaris Attributes Patch
121308-08 SunOS 5.10: Solaris Management Console Patch
119313-10 SunOS 5.10: WBEM Patch
124614-01 SunOS 5.10: sconadm proxy: UnknownHostException
124171-03 SunOS 5.10: flash issue with SUNWscn-base due to broken package
124327-03 SunOS 5.10: libpcp patch
123252-01 SunOS 5.10: platform/SUNW,Netra-T2000 patch
If I do a patchadd individually it says "requested patches have packages not installed on the system"
Thanks,
Steve

For patches 123252-01 and 124327-01 the problem is due to bug 6441232 where patches for different architectures were being recommended as they matched a realisation for "BaseOS.SolarisCore" used in creating patch recommendations.
In this case the patch was for the sparc.sun4v architecture but your system is the sparc.sun4u architecture. The metadata used for recommendations has already been requested to be adjusted for this patch so it is no longer recommended. A fix for the realisation should correct this for all patches in the future is still to be done. In the meantime it can be ignored.
For the other patches, the issue may be similar.

I was able to install 119252-15 manually and here is why I can't install the others:
124188-02 needs SUNWmccom
121308-08 needs SUNWmccom SUNWmc SUNWmcc SUNWwbmc
119313-10 needs SUNwdclnt SUNwfsmgtu SUNwlvma SUNwlvmr SUNwmgapp SUNwwbapi SUNwwbcor SUNwwbcou SUNwwbdev SUNwwbpro SUNw
124614-01 needs SUNWscn-base
124171-03 needs SUNWscn-base SUNWscn-base-r
124327-03 BUG ID 6441232
123252-01 BUG ID 6441232
Is there away to set smpatch to skip these when it's ran?

There is currently no feature available which allows you to "ignore" or blacklist these patches so that they are never recommended but we expect this option to be available to users in the next release of the toolset.
As we previously stated, the patches are incorrectly recommended due to errors with the metatdata thats associated with them and the analysis thats done to compare your host and the patch metadata. We are aware of these errors and are working to correct them. In the meantime we apologise for any inconvenience this may be causing

I understand that fixing the metadata for an existing patch might be administratively awkward but why on earth are subsequent patches put out with the same metadata error?
124327-01 is the libpcp path and it is incorrectly recommended, but since this problem was reported we have had 124327-02 and 124327-03 come out with the same problem.
It is getting more and more difficult to maintain systems using smpatch/updatemanager when the list of inapplicable patches keeps growing and growing. This damages the credibility/image of the toolset even if the problem is not the tool!

Hi.
Again our aologies for the curent situation. The bug mentioned previously in this thread is currently at the highest priority possible, and is in state 'Fix in Progress'.
I believe that rather than changing the patch production process (or adding manual fixes for each patch), the toolset itself is being worked on to make this a non-issue.
