smpatch add 121975-01 failed

I did smpatch download and in second step smpatch add.

Log-file shows

add patch 121975-01

add patch 120410-15

ERROR: This patch requires patch 121975-01

which has not been applied to the system.

add patch 122761-01

add patch 123252-01

Why isn't patch 121975-01 installed? So I did

/usr/j2se/bin/jar xf 121975-01.jar

patchadd 121975-01

There are a number of patches currently listed as being Solaris 10 "base system" patches that in fact apply to packages that are only part of the "base system" as of the latest Solaris 10 update. If you installed an earlier release you may not have the package installed and so the patchadd fails. This is a problem with the meta-data in the patches and there have been a number of reports about this in the forum.

Unfortunately it seems to be taking a long time to get the patch meta-data fixed.

Unfortunately this problem will persist until the metadata has been fixed, and there is at present no projected date for this to be completed.

However, the next release of UC will enable patches to be blocked on a per-patch basis regardless of the information contained within the metadata.
