Sun Ultra 40: 3rd party SATA drives?

My company is considering getting an Ultra 40 workstation, but we want to reuse some SATA drives we already have (two 3.5" 250GB drives). Is that possible?

From the manual ( http://www.sun.com/products-n-solutions/hardware/docs/html/819-3952-11/stor.htm l#pgfId-1000345 ) it seems that you need to use a latch to install the drive, but I can't tell if all 4 latches come with the workstation or if they come only with SATA drives bought from Sun...

welcome to the Wonderful World Of Sun! These "latches" as you call them, are spud brackets (540-6562).... they may be different than the ones that have been in use since the Ultra 1.... as far as I know, you cannont buy them with out a drive attached...

the other thing is unless you are buying the U40 second hand, you will seriously endanger the warranty by using non-Sun HDs...

Yes, the Sun versions are more expensive to buy, but if they die, they would be replaced overnite (if the rumours are true). Warranties are nice like that...
