Sound driver?
Does anybody know which linux modules I need to load for getting sound to work in a Java Workstation W2100z?
I installed Ubuntu 6.06 and everything works fine, except for sound. Ubuntu installer did not recognize the sound card. After the installation I have tried to install ALSA stuff, unsuccessfully.
I would appreciate very much any help, thanks!

I don't think Ubuntu was ever qualified for that platform,
but you may be able to get something working.
Redhat, Suse, and WinXPpro install fine to the system.
There doesn't seem to be Chipset details available on a Sun site unless you have a Sunsolve login account.
That would get you into the Spectrum version of the SSH,
and you could examine details of the systemboard layout.
However, glance through Anantech's review of the W2100z system, from October 2004
http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=2255&p=2
There seems to be a reference, as of that date, to a Realtek chipset.
A Goog le search on the K85AE systemboard also finds a link
to a Sun technical white paper for the W1100z and W2100z architecture (PDF document).

"generic" AC'97 is mentioned in there as well,
so again it seems to be the familiar Realtek stuff.
