w2100z workstation shutdown

Hello,

My w2100z shutdowns everytime i try to boot it. I had a similar problem with w1100z and was able to take care of it by updating the BIOS.

But with 2100z, it shutsdown even before it boots from the cd. Any idea how make it run long enough to boot from the cd?

here is the link to where the sun people describe it..

thanks for the help

My w2100z also shuts down after the SCSI check and prior to booting with a dmilog error of "System rear fan1 fault" suggesting need for a BIOS upgrade. How do you perform the BIOS upgrade from the supplemental CD if you can't keep it running long enough to boot from the CD? Was their a resolution to this?

Thanks

Thank you for the response with the links to past discussions. The answer to the problem for others who may run into it is find several fans of any size with the right electrical connection and try them until one allows a boot. (Even though it is not any problem with the fans in the first place, evidently the fan fault error varies with the fan characteristics (RPM or impedance or something).) Have your bootable latest Supplemental CD ready with your BIOS set to do a CDROM boot and update the BIOS when you get a fan that works. With your new BIOS in place you can re-install any fan with the right specs for the machine.

It worked for us on the 2nd fan (a small one from a Dell PC). Thanks again.

.. and your description of a workaround was a great contribution to the issue. No one needed to "re-invent the wheel".Return often.
