Ultra 5 - Keyboard does not work

I have a Sun Type 6 PS/2 keboard connected to my Ultra 5 running Solaris 8. The mouse is connected to the keyboard (Sun Mouse).

The keyboard used to work but the Ultra 5 went to storage for a while and the keyboard does not work anymore. The mouse works fine.

Is this a hardware issue or a keyboard issue. The boot states the keyboard did not load and is defaulting to ttya for input and output.

Should I buy another keyboard?

Please help.

ok, first thing, the Sun keyboard is NOT PS/2, period. ain't the same socket.

next, where are you plugging the keyboard into? the socket next to the audio ports? that is the right place... just in case you had a frame buffer card and tried to plug the keyboard into the sync socket next to the 13W3 socket.

and then, how do you know that the mouse works?

by all means, try a different keyboard.

Hello.

Obviously the computer is booting into X11 mode so he can see that the mouse works but the keyboard does not work.

If the mouse works the keyboard must be plugged into the correct socket. The 8-pin keyboard connectors have 5 pins for the keyboard and 3 pins for the mouse so it is possible that the cable of the keyboard is not working correctly (one of the 5 keyboard wires) so the mouse is still working. It could be a problem with the keyboard controller, too.

I am plugging the keyboard into the socket next to the audio. After the system boots to the login screen I can utilize the mouse to click options but the keyboard does not work.

I will check to make sure the PINs are not damaged or pushed in. Just in case I am ordering another keyboard as well.

Thanks for your help,

Mark
