BUG REPORT Filter fn="html-filter"

I have spent the last 3 days testing the HTML Tag Filter functionality in Web Proxy Server 4.0.2 and recently (today) 4.0.3. After my testing I have to submit a bug report. If there is another way to do this please inform me.

I have tried using the Filter in templates and in regular resource objects like <Object ppath="http://.*">. What I have discovered is the following.

For most sites on the internet the filtering DOES NOT work. In some instances (like www.yahoo.om) it does not work at all. One location (www.afflink.com) it produced / returned a hacked up and corrupted html document. I have verified that the templates were in use because before i test them I rename the template manually to force an error. Then i look in the log file to see that the url I entered matched the template and it was looking for that object name. Then I rename the object back so that I can test again. I started with a fresh instance of the proxy server and disabled caching from the start. I consistenlty cleared my browser cache/history after before every test.

Curiously I found a situation that did work. When I went to www.afflink.com (without a proxy) and grabbed its raw source and saved it to an html file that I then serve up from my local apache server (the proxy is on the same machine) then the filtering worked. When I tried the same trick with Yahoo it seemed to work for the first half of the page but halfway down I saw a few <script> tags in there.

If needed I can supply some of my test obj.conf files but I think its real easy to recreate. Just visit the sites I mentioned and you will see.

If ANYONE has gotten this to work PLEASE contact me.

thanks

Doug

Doug, you should submit a service request by clicking the Support Cases link at http://www.sun.com/support if you want to open a bug report. Your account information should have been including with your support contract. If you don't have a contract, you can visit http://www.sun.com/service/serviceplans/software/overview.xml for information on Sun software service plans.

If you'd rather look for help on community forum, you'll need to provide a lot more information before anyone can help:

1. The *exact* contents of your configuration files

2. The contents of your error log

3. The original source code of the page

4. The filtered source code of the page

I made a previous post "html-filter does it really work" in which I give my obj.conf and what I saw in the html. I can and will provide full blown information if needed. I will first pursue the case of the corrupted html

We do not have a support contract as of this time.

thanks
