Strange format error

I am installing Solaris 10 6/06 on a V240 machine. I setup the partitions with format before I ran the install. When I did I got this error with either of the 2 disks I tried, "Error ocured with the device in use checking: Permission denied." This was after I had booted to single user mode off the install CD. It happened twice, once when the disk was selected after the disk command, and again after entering the label command. I found an online document that seems to sugesst that this is nothing to worry about:

http://docs.sun.com/source/819-3744-10/boston_PN.html

They recommend just setting "NOINUSE_CHECK=1", before format. Since that is for a different system I was wondering if that is something that still applies here. I would think that the drives wouldn't be mounted in single user mode off the install CD, but perhaps that's not the case. If someone could explain to me why this might be occuring, and also how many, if any, possible important errors setting the NOINUSE_CHECK variable represses, I'd appriciate it. Thanks

Did you run "install" directly after formatting the drives (while booted off of CD)?This may give the reason for the "...in use checking."Curious... why format the drives when the OS will prompt you for it later (and as well, you can assign the partitions - and sizes - at that

No I rebooted the machine before running the install. I sent a break from the alom and booted the cd from the ok prompt after the format. The error occured immediately following the disk selection of the format command, and again when I tried to label it.
