StorEdge_L8 - why can't we backup to it anymore?

Hi,

We have a StorEdge_L8 jukebox attached to a Solaris9 server (with EBS 7.1 software), but recently it has stopped working.

Firstly, on the last backup i ran i've just noticed that some of the Volumes show some entries as "suspect aborted" - what does this mean? Is there something wrong with the tapes?

Now, whenever i try to do anything (mount, unmount, label, inventory) i get the following message in nwadmin...

Thu 04:22:01 PM /dev/rmt/0cbn read open error: drive status is There is not a tape in the drive

Thu 04:22:25 PM /dev/rmt/0cbn Eject operation in progress

or

Tue 04:50:15 PM media info: unload retryfor jukebox `StorEdge_L8' failed - will retry again.

Tue 04:50:15 PM media info: unload retryfor jukebox `StorEdge_L8': sleeping 30 seconds

(if this message displays it appears to get stuck in a loop, and i have to stop the networker daemons... then kill the process)

The StorEdge_L8 drive itself seems fine... i have imported and exported tapes, loaded and unloaded tapes, run diagnotics. It's all fine.

I even imported some more tapes (there were 5 in the drive, now there are 7 + the cleaner) - but nwadmin didn't see the 2 new tapes under Volumes, or let me label them.

I found somewhere mention of 'jbverify' which i have run... the first time i got a "Fail" in the status report at the end, but every time since i got "Pass".

I'm really stuck. I don't know what i'm doing. Or what it's doing. It's like it's not seeing the L8... but not recognising that it's not seeing it......?

Any thoughts or advice would be really appreciated!

Thanks,

mark.
