What is c0t0d0s0 in /dev/dsk signifies
Hi,
What this phrase c0t0d0s0 signifies inside, /dev/dsk directory. I have seen many such entries inside /dev/dsk. Also format command lists out such entries which contain the above phrase. All entires inside /dev/dsk starts with either c0 or c3 or c5 ? What these char set stands for ? This is my first post in the forum. Also, i am new to Sun administration. I work in SAN domain. Hope to hear from you guys soon.

c0t0d0s0 represents:
controller #0
target #0
disk #0
slice #0
"Controllers" can be embedded on systemboards or they can be on adapter cards.
"Targets" are the SCSI ID logical positions for destination addressing.
"Disk" is the actual device that is attached, be it a tape drive, optical drive, disk drive, etc.
"Slices" are most simply remembered as partitions.
The CxTxDxSx syntax gives you quick device pathing to the lump of hardware.
