Solaris 8 install from CD - How long?

Booting from Software 1 CD how long to install on a SunFire V100....

I booted mine and it took about 30 mins to boot from the CD. After

going through all the config stuff and starting the install its now

been running 16 hours and is only 40% through the initial install.

This doesnt seem right to me. I'm thinking maybe the CD drive is faulty

or something.

The install CDs I'm using are ones I've burnt myself from image (and

I've tried a few now)....

You're right.... That's insanely long... Something's busted and it might indeed be your drive...Booting a V120 from CD usually took me no longer than five minutes. Installing from CD shouldn't take more than an hour or two tops...

Is it a CD-R or a CD-RW? But on some drives both can cause problems like you describe and somethings those slimline drives are just broken. But if you want to replace it please check if you need a master or slave drive.

I just had that problem with a very fast system but I used an old, old, old scsi cdrom and it took forever to bootup and install. I aborted half way through and install a brand new ide cdrom and installing solaris 8 took apprximately 1 1/2 hours. It will take even less if you boot on the software disk 1 which uses the 2nd disk and that is stipulating the entire software.
