Solaris 10 6/06 patches

Hello,

I am a newbie to Solaris 10 and sorry if this question sounds a bit thick.

I am trying to set up a new Solaris 10 SPARC server to host some applications. I am using the 6/06 release and I would like to deploy Solaris with all of the available patches to avoid any problems. I cannot determine from the release documentation is the 6/06 release includes any of the extensive list of patches Sun has published.

Therefore, how do I determine which patches are available and applicable to Solaris 10 SPARC 6/06 release?

Many thanks,

Richard Sendall.

Hi Richard,

Thats a very interesting question.

Our onsite Sun Engineer put 06/06 onto our jumpstart system and Sun did not supply any patches at all.We get to use the EIS CD for patching but it is always is about two months old.

So when we jumpstart this new version, we don't do any extra patching yet. I figure that there might not be patches yet. Normally we do a jumpstart and then put on the recommended patches as a post install job.

I know there was some real problems with previous versions of 10 with some network issues. One of our update 1 systems became totally useless for NFS and Sun have only recently supplied a T Patch for it.

Normally you just put the recommended patches on the system and if it does not need to be patched, it wont do it. Problem is that some of the messages can be a bit misleading. So there is no real way to distinguish patches for a major release.

So far 06/06 is working like a charm unpatched.
