Mail server

Hi all,

I want to set up a mail service on a sun fire v880 server running solaris 10.

this will be my first time doing so on a unix platform, and iam confused whether to choose sendmail or postfix, i need something reliable, secure and easy to administer.

Please help me to choose if you are experienced with this issue and is there something better than sendmail or postfix? any installation recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Sendmail can be secure as long as you know how to set up the sendmail.cfg file. Oriely and Associates makes a good book on administering sendmail.

The thing I would look at is the support. Sendmail comes with the Solaris OS, and the patches are included with the cluster releases. It is easier to maintain.

But its got a fairly steep learning curve. Other mailers tend to be a bit easier to learn. So theres pro's and con's either way.
