NIS Questuon - Very Urgent

Hi,I would like to know if it's mandatory that users accounts stored on the NIS master must have a shell assigned in order to be able to access to the application components. The users need to access to applications not to the operating system.Best Regards,Bernardo

a) Yes

b) No

c) maybe

d) all of the above

What app is this alleged user trying to run?

If he's to cheap to buy a watch and he wants to run the date command are look at some gui clock, then yes.

If the user is using a web browser and connects to a web server, then probably Not.

If the user is trying to use an application like Oracle that can use system names or use it's own internal user db, then it depends on how the app is configured.

Hi Alan,The users are authenticated on a citrix system, but the NIS maste is located on another system. After been authenticated by the Citrix, the users have access to specific aplications. It's clear for you?

Nope,

The first message never mentioned a Citrix box at all. Now it turns out that the users need to use a citrix client to access a box that allows them to access some mystery application. You could have simply named the application and removed any doubt as to what it is or why if they authenticate to a Citrix box how NIS comes into play in this scenario.

Is there an actual question here as it appears that everyting is working. Users authenticate to Citrix and then appear to be accessing some applications. Ok, what then does NIS have to do with this? Does Citrix somehow access NIS to verify passwords? If the application is something that is run on the Citrix machine, and the users don't need to authenticate via NIS, then I still don't get it. Maybe it's me! If the application runs on the Citrix box then yea, we don't really need to know what it is, I'll just assume that it's some text based app that they need to interface with.
