Disk path time-out settings in Sun Solaris box

I would like to know if i change the sd_io_timeout value to 180secs what will be the impact of this. I know that in HP-UX boxes emc recommend this value. Can you help me what is the best practise for this kernel parameter?

EMC must have recommend a value for your specific system.

We use EMC CX300 and LTO3 library as SAN storage

and this value is set to 60 in our Sunfire 6800.

I bet if I make it 30 sec it would not impact very bad

because even 30 sec timeout for fiber switched SAN is long enough.

For newer and faster devices (disks etc) timeout can

be set shorter values, for old and slow reacting devices

(tapes etc) higher values are useful.
