Hi Paul101,

12k-25k monitoring is handled by the High End addon:

> Sun Fire High-End Systems Monitoring

As long as that addon is in your SunMC Server, when you install the SunMC Agent/Platform-Agent combo on your SC it will just do the right thing.

Hi Paul101,

On 12-25k SC's there are actually 2 SunMC processes, the regular Agent (esd - init agent) on port 161, and the "Platform" Agent (esd - init platform) on port 166. The regular Agent is for the hardware and OS of the SC, and the Platform Agent handles all the common components of the frame and domains.

Because those Agents are designed for 2 different tasks they have seperate lists of what modules can be loaded into them:

http://docs.sun.com/source/819-0417/agentmods.html

Maybe you're trying to load Platform Agent modules into the regular Agent?

2 questions...If you can't do anything with those modules why have them listed there? And how does one load modules into the platform Agent?

Excellent question. My guess is it was easier to document the list of valid modules than it was to do the right thing (and not show modules you can't use). You can call Sun support and hassle them if you want :)

(Check out the footnote #1: not only can you see modules you shouldn't load, but if you accidentally load the wrong one anyways, you can kill the Agent: http://docs.sun.com/source/819-0417/agentmods.html#pgfId-137433). Oops!

The procedures to create icons for both the regular and Platform Agents are part of the High End documentation:

http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-0417?l=en

...but if you can see the SC is actually running the "esd - init platform" process the quick way is to click Edit --> Create Object in the Console and choose the Platform option from the picklist (or change the default port for the regular icon from 161 to 166) then punch in the IP of your SC and click OK.

That should make a Platform Agent icon for you, which is much more interesting than the regular SC icon because you can see all the hardware.

Ok, never mind I have the platform agent loaded.........Why wouldn't you integrate these into one agent?
