SunMC 3.6.1 global zone: es-setup failed because db-start failed

I'm running es-setup on a Solaris 10 global zone, where SunMC 3.6.1 is installed. I have been getting the same error even after I followed the work around instructions suggested in SunSolve Bug ID 6385492 and 4375143. The following are the error messages:

- -

Configure Sun Management Center web server port. Default port is 8080

Press RETURN to force default port.

Enter port you would like to use [ 1100 to 65535 ]:

Failed to start database.

Failed to start database.

PKCS11 Utilities package(SUNWcsl) was found.

Encrypted SNMP Communication is supported.

Setup of Agent component is successful.

Starting Sun Management Center database setup...

Database setup failed : db-start failed

Could not finish requested task.

Need to mention that I have two whole root zones running on the same machine which all have SunMC3.6.1 installed.

Anyone has encountered the same problem? Any solution? Thanks!

the db-start script does not fit very well for solaris 10 and zones. if you have a zone, which has a user with the same uid as the smc user and which is the owner of an oracle db, the startup of the db service fails.

solution: change the smc user id with usermod and find all files in the global zone, which have the previous userid and change these to the new one.

Do you have ZFS running in on the Server if so then SMC doesn't setup. Don't give up hope. I've gotten SMC Server to run on Solaris 10 both in Global and Sub-Zones.
