Newbie question
How do I begin?
I am currently doing a lot of manual monitoring of my company's unix servers.
Manually checking disk space, manually checking syslog and /var/adm/messages. Stuff like that.
The work load is getting overwhelming with the growth of my company.
We just recently had SMC 3.6.1. installed and are getting ready to demo it.
1. Is the tool easy to use? I am having a hard time even getting the basics down. I have flipped through the manual but I can't seem to get my hands around how to set up even the most basic of monitoring features. Is it just me?
2. Are there other comparable tools out there?
If someone could help...or at least point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.
I can offer Fantasy Football advice in return :-)

It depends on your environment (Solaris 10, Firewall, NAT, etc) but it's pretty straightforward ;-) I'm not using the GUI install and setup but the CLI version, and that works fine.

So it is just me. Great.
My environment is mainly Solaris 9/10...with a few 8's throw in.
I have SMC running on a T2000 and have the agents installed on a couple of my dev servers to test.
Now I want to setup the agent to monitor, and mimic the things that I currently do as best that it can.
Take for instance...Disk space monitoring. Where do I even set taht up? how can I say "Alert me when a file system hit 90% capacity"?

You have to load the (full) Kernel Reader to do that. When you do that, you can monitor file system usage. By default it will warn you with an alert message when the usage hits 95% and it will warn you with a critical message when it hits 98%.
So is it just a case for you to use the proper modules or is there something else? :-)
