Are you installing it on Sparc or x86 machine. Also check your jdk version? It should be above 1.4

I was trying on x86 ... I have java 1.4.2 and 1.5 installed.

Prior to launching the install script I set JAVA_HOME=/usr/j2se as per the instructions.

After looking a little closer at the requirements for the server layer, I see that there are no requirements listed for x86, only SPARC. Could it be that it isn't possible to install on x86?

You are correct. SMC server is not available on x86.-Sanjay

SMC is available for Solaris x86. I have it working now on Solaris 10 06/06, although I had some trouble getting it to work--see this post: http://swforum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=57915&tstart=270I've also used it on previous versions of Solaris x86.
