Help!!!! Issue with Sunmc3.6.1 console

Hi all,

I encountered an issue with SMC3.6.1 console, when open the console by connecting a SMC agent server(point at login GUI), there are several tab panes missed, such as "View logs", "application",

"Hardware", and the icon for the host node is wrong, it should be an inco of a machine, but what I saw is an inco of directory.

Hope to get help from you!!!! Urgent!!

Thanks in advance!

we cannot help you, but we have the same problem when we add a 15K domain. We only see a blue folder as an image for the node.

Hi JavaBoy,

Search this forum for "blue folder": it's a common problem indicating your SunMC Server is missing files. Basically all you have to do is rerun the install script (es-inst) and say "yes" to add support for the hardware showing the blue folder.

A blue folder icon instead of the proper host-type icon means your Server wasn't installed with the icons it needs... so it doens't think that it's a "real" Agent... so it's not showing you all the tabs associated with a real Agent.

We noticed that after the upgrade on the server from 3.5.1 to 3.6.1 we were missing a number of files in the /var/opt/SUNWsymon/cfg directory.f.e Sun-Fire-15000-platform-family-j.x

and the icon files in the deviceimages directory.

We copied the files from a 3.5.1 server and the icons were there again.

Then we still had the problem that missed tabs in the detail window.

This we solved by editing the deviceinfo.conf file in the /var/opt/SUNWsymon/cfg directory. We copied the file from a domain that was still on a 3.5.1 server and was still working fine there.

Hi Mike & Quiksilver,

Thanks so much for your valueable clues!!!

As Quiksilver said, by that mean, we can get the icons back, but how to restore the tabs?Mike ,do you have further suggestion? Need I check

which add-on should be suplemented?

Meanwhile, when I set up SMC in agent, some addons has only been set up its agent layer, that means all "es-device" were not executed, will that cause the lack of server icons and result in the "fake"

agents?

Thanks a lot!

In fact you have to restore the old deviceinfo.conf file of your agent.

Quiksilver: As part of adding support for 20/25k's the code for the 12->25k line was changed from "12/15k <blah>" to "High End Systems". So what you may have saw was your new SunMC 3.6. 1 Server actually was installed correctly... but you maybe hadn't yet upgraded your 12-15k SC/Domain Agents to also use the new "High End" files.

It may work for now, but if you move to 20/25k-class (or USIV uniboard) systems, or the newest versions of SMS on your SCs - your SC/Domain Agents will have to be upgraded as well.

JavaBoy: I can't tell you what addon you're missing... because you haven't told anyone the hardware type of your problem Agent :) Your addon name may be shown here:

http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-5419/6n7gl536u?l=en&q=config+reader 8;a=view

...or you can grep the SunMC media for your hardware type and the addon name will show up in the path.

Hi all,

I found that my deviceinfo.conf missed after SMC set up, Do you know

why it happens?

Mike: The server is V890, I think the correspond add-on Workgroup server has been installed:

systemSUNWeswhdSun Management Center Workgroup Server Agent Support (V880/V890 Specific)

I wonder that is " sun4u-Sun-Fire-V890-vh-family-j.x" the output of es-device?

Mike,

We had this problem because we upgraded the SMS version recently. The SC is still running 3.5.1 and still will be because it's running production. The domain is a testdomain...

What actually is the link between a SC and it's domain in regards with SunMC?

And... we don't have any "High End"j.x files on our 3.6.1 server. Are we missing an addon or something? We did choose the High End monitoring part.

Thanks.
