checking fiber-channel ports resets or up/downs

Hi,

we suspect serious saturation on ports of SAN-connected storage arrays, and want to monitor if timeouts or resets or link down/up happen on the server's FC-HBA ports (the "fp" driver).

Is this possible with a readily available feature?

Or do I need to find out myself what structure of messages are generated by this driver, and construct a logfile (/var/adm/messages) scanner with SMC?

I would hope that SUN has already included knowledge of their "fp" driver in SMC...

thx in advance for any tips !

Do you happen to have any switches between your storage and your HBA's? If so, then that is probably the best place to start monitoring.

It would be helpful to give an idea of what type of infrastructure you are using as there are some tools that do fair jobs of monitoring activity in the SAN/fabric.

If you are getting any problems on the hosts HBA's they are bound to be producing events in the messages file. FC can be quite verbose when it comes to errors.

Fibre channel is not really native in Solaris 9 and below, so there is not much chance SunMC will be of much help.
