StoreEdge D240 SCSI speed problem while running tape backup
Hello,
since I am running a D240 connected to my Fire V20z with a Quantum DLT VS80 Streamer I am suffering from SCSI speed problems.
The Fire V20z is running under Fedora Core 5.
The D240 is connected through an Adaptec AHA 29160 SCSI controller.
When I am running a tar cvf /dev/st0 /HTTP on the Fire (1st HD with 360MBps SCSI speed) it runs with a speed of 3GB / hour!
Without compression the speed should reach at least 10GB / hour or more.
As I have 2 DLT VS 80 running in the Media Trays of the D240 I tested both of them, it doesn't matter, both of them store with the same speed.
Can anybody give me a hint what to check / what to do, to get the speed up?
Thanks in advance, Axel

V20z and D240?
Adaptec 3rd party SCSI card?
DLT drives?
FC5 for an OS ?
How did you fit DLT drives inside the D240?
It's only qualified for DAT72 and DDS drives.

... or is that some sort of external tape device that you have daisy-chained to the card?
The D240 peripheral has also not been qualified to function on a V20z.
(nor any of Sun's x86-based systems for that matter -- see that first link)
That SCSI card hasn't been qualified for proper functionality in the system, either.

... nor that particular RedHat OS.

You do realize that the D240 is a LVD SCSI device.
Is the DLT drive(s) also LVD?
With such a lash-up of hardware and software, I'd say your getting about as good as you're going to get.
