Problems uninstalling Staroffice 8 on Windows XP

Hi! For some reason my installer entry for Staroffice 8 was spoiled and I could not uninstall it using the standard routines. I had to revert to manually deleting the installation directory and and all Staroffice entries in Windows registry. I also deleted sversion.ini, but there is no way of installing the Suite anew: I always get the message (I am translating) "There is an older version of Staroffice installed. To install a newer version you must remove the one already installed."

Is there anyone who knows what makes the installer think there is an older version on my PC? Is there any way of forcing an install in windows?
