Sun Studio 11 installation questions - patches, java

I am preparing to install Sun Studio 11 on a Solaris 8 Sparc box.

The doc says that the install will install the required OS patches. One of the patches requires a reboot.

1) Will the install initiate the reboot ? I am guessing not.

2) Can I just install the OS patches separately ahead of time and then choose to NOT install them during the Sun Studio installation ?

3) If the answer to #2 is yes, can I have the installer still install the Sun Studio patches ?

The doc says that Java 1.4.2_08 is required. It also says that if this is available, then java installation will not be available as a component to install. I already have 1.4.2_11 installed but in a non-standard directory.

4) Does the installer determine Java availability via what it finds in PATH ?

Thanks,

Tim

No it won't.

It makes little difference. If you patch before, then patchadd would simply fail if it were launched by the Studio installer.

Not if the patches are already installed.

I think so, and there are also command line options to specify the location of java.
