installing

I have downloaded Solaris and extracted the files. But there is no .exe fie to run. Am I supposed to boot off a dvd?

okay, i think this is a boot disk. So do i just burn a DVD with all the files and attempt to boot from it, or do I need to somehow use windows to create a boot disk from these files?

If you had spent some time at Sun's web site,

and bothered to research the issue a bit before just plowing ahead,

you may have prepared yourself for this.

Begin with the Hardware Compatibility List to see whether your hardware

will even function on Solaris: http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/

Then memorize the Download and Burning Instructions:

http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/download_instruction.xml

Then review the Basic Installation Instructions:

http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-0544/

If your installation isn't successful the first few times,

I suggest you just do it all over again and again and again.

You will learn from the experience and eventually become comfortable with it.
