hi,
forgot some info
it reaches the following screen:
SunOS release 5.10 Version Generic
copyright xxxxxxx
Use is subject to license terms
and then the cursor keeps blinking and none of the keys like caps lock and scroll lock respond.
So i am asuming it is hung at this place.
The comp is an HP Pavilion dv5000 with 1gb ram and intel Centrino duo.
TIA
best regards
amit
Hi,
i did the following:
inserted x86 dvd
came to GNU GRUB prompt:
edited the default line and put the following:
kernel /boot/multiboot kernel/unix -kdv -B install_media=cdrom
and then pressed b
then i arrived at the kmdb prompt
here i entered , at the prompt
[0]> moddebug/W 80000000
[0]>:c
then lot of scroll happened in which it said installing modules
then
2nd last line says

GOT IT INSTALLED ON MY CORE DUO DELL D620!!!!
Turns out Solaris 10 06/06 x86 does not like Intel's Multi Core Support on Core Duo laptops (at least the Dell D620 Core Duo Centrino).
To get it to work, you need to go into the BIOS, under Performance, Turn Off "Multi Core Support" and then you are ok.
Now I need to get wireless and sound to work.
I have a trouble with Solaris 10 U 2 x86 installation. After the install process only "GRUB>" invitation is on the screen.
when I type "kernel boot /multiboot" - I receive "Error 21: Selected disk does not exist." Looks like OS can't recognize HDD controller.
Hardware:
MB: ASUS P5B (i965)
CPU: Intel Core 2 DUO E6300
RAM: 2x1024 DDR 667
HDD: Western Digital WD1600JB 160 gb
Two machines with the seame hardware have the same symзtoms.
Has somebody any ideas? I wander if i965 is supported by Solaris 10x86 - didn't find any notes regarding that. But may be something else?
Thanks in advance.
I searched in the linux forums, and i found out, that the problem with the recognition of the hard drives and ide periphericals in 965 chipsets is the newest southbridge ICH8, because ICH8 dont support PATA, so uses an extra controller for the ide support(marvell). this is the wiki of a guy trying to install debian on a 965 mobo (http://www.oakcourt.dyndns.org/~andrew/wiki/index.php/DebianOnIntel965).
Also i bought and intel DG965WH mobo, i would like to run solaris on my machine, hope that in the next release, the solaris kernel dev. guys could make the 965 chipset and ICH8 support.
