GRUB recovery

Hi FriendsHow to we can recover the lost grub of Solaris 10 1/06 6/06 , if windows os is installed afterwards solaris regards Kinshuk

Hi Kinshuk,

You need to make the partition (fdisk primary) on which you installed Solaris as the "active" partition.

There are many software/utilities that will let you do that. If you have MS DOS you can use fdisk to mark the partition active.

Or, you can do as follows:

1) Boot from the Solaris cd1.

2) When the installer asks you the type of install select the option that gives you a shell (it's the last option if I remember correctly).

3) At the shell prompt run the "format" command.

4) Select the appropriate disk.

5) Run fdisk from prompt.

6) Mark the Solaris partition active.

7) Reboot. If all goes well you should see grub on reboot.

Needless to say you need to very carefull while running the above commands.

You might want to note down the above steps on a piece of paper.
