dtmail on x86 crashes when sending mail

Hi,

I'm running Solaris 10 on x86 and I'm wondering if there is a fix or a workaround

for dtmail crashing when sending mail. There is an existing bug report for this

filed July 20 2006 (6346618) but I'm unable to view the bug detail since I have

not yet fully decided on a service plan. I've searched around Sunsolve and

google but nothing is coming up. I tried build 45 of Solaris Express and the

same problem is present. Does anyone have any additional information

about this? Is a fix available for serivce plan holders?

Thanks,

Pat

Yep, I've noticed that dtmail crash problem, too.As a workaround, I've replaced /usr/dt/bin/dtmail with an old dtmail copy from Solaris 9.Works fine.

Thanks for the suggestion but short of installing Solairs 9 for one binary, I'm wondering if there is a patch available at this time that I cannot get to without a serivce plan.

I am currently evaluating Solaris 10 on both the x86 and Sparc platforms which is why I have not yet purchased a basic service plan. As such, I cannot view the bug report mentioned above. I don't know how many others are using dtmail - this bug may be a very low priority for sun to fix. If this bug is likely to remain unresolved for a while, I'm probably better off opting for a Sparc service plan; dtmail works fine on the Sparc box.

Thanks,

Pat

Well, i got a support contract, and i had a look at the bug and even if its interesting it doesn't seem to have generated any patch.

The only available patch for Solaris 10 x86/dtmail is 121488-01. Do you have that one installed? The nature of this bug is such that it might have been solved with a different compilation..

Best regards,

Thank you for looking at the bug. I do have 121488-01 installed; patch dated 12/19/2005. If a fix for this is rolled up into another patch, so far it is not available to me. As of this morning, there are no updates; dtmail still crashes on sending mail.

Searching sunsolve for this returns three bug numbers:

6346618 (dated July 20, 2006)

5091421 (dated November 4, 2005)

1187150 (dated November 16, 1995)

although the 1995 bug is probably unrelated. Looks like my best chance at working around this may be to grab the dtmail binary from Solaris 9. Thanks to all who have looked at this with me so far; I appreciate it.

Regards

Pat

I use dtmail for reading my incomming email and have also experience crashes when I try to send mail. But after a little "try and error" yesterday I found out that I do can send mail IF I uncheck "Send email in MIME format" - not the best solution but at least it works for sending notes/reminders to my own office mail account.

Thanks for the work around Oskar. I'm certainly hopeful a patch will be availablesoon. I have been talking with a developer who is aware of the issue and is lookinginto it, but I get the feeling this is rather low on the fix list.Pat

Hi all,I tried the workaround without MIME. No change in behavior. dtmail still crashes, and it doesn't matter which smtp-Server is addressed.I also hope that there will be a patch ...Matthias
