I had the same problem last week on a X4100 running
Sol 10 11/06 so I think the problem can occur in any version.
I was able to get out of the situation by:
1) cp install-launcher file from the SPARC DVD to the
directory listed in the log file from svcs -xv. I think it
was /lib/svc/method.
2) create the /var/sadm/launcher directory so install-launcher
won't error out.
3) reboot
The system came back up after that. All zones are running fine.

After doing (with an aborting 1st try...) the 10_Recommended I have tracked down my incompletely running system to the absence of
/lib/svc/method/install-launcher: No such file or directory
/var/svc/manifest/system/install-launcher.xml: No such file or directory
We recently moved our office and I am now telecommuting. The Install DVD is now in Colorado and I'm in Texas. I prefer not to have to ....wait... to get my hands on the DVD. I'm also one of those who got on the list to get the OpenSolaris DVD over a month ago, but have yet to see the "in 10 business days" DVD.
Can you suggest another place to get it?
If there isn't much to install-launcher, could you print it here? Send it to me?
Umph. This may be worse than I thought. I couldn't get a CD to mount. Search and found vold is no-longer the way. Now its volfs. However,
svcs "*vol*"
svcs: Pattern '*vol*' doesn't match any instances
Now I'm wondering what has befallen this machine with this 10_Recommended update... and how is it that this system acts (nearly) totally usable?

Yep. That's what I'm doing. I wish I hadn't followed Sun's suggestion about using the Download Manager, though.
It disobeyed my changed [options] download destination and promptly filled up the partition, quietly giving up unzipping the 1st download and then crapping out on the 2nd. I foolishly STOPPED it and went back to [options]. Yep. It obeyed the DISCARD on STOPPING, but NOT the new download directory.
It seems that I will have to stop the browser (mozilla) altogether, return here to get Download Manager to acknowledge my wishes.
This is definitely not one of the alternate Fridays wherein work gets done.

Installed OpenSolaris as an upgrade. Now all seems to be well (not to say it didn't take a full day to complete).
