Solaris updates are routinely both a bunch of patches and new packages; just installing the patches didn't get you the new packages.S10U1 was an exception in that everything was put in patches. I didn't think U2 (6/06) was an exception like that, but I could be wrong, and since there's a "genesis patch" I'm willing to believe I am. (A "genesis patch" is a special patch that can install new packages, which patches normally don't do -- normally if a patch affects a package you don't have, patchadd just skips it.)
So if it's true that just installing the patches gets you the feature, the patches should be out "any day now" -- they wouldn't have released the update release without having all the included patches clear all the internal checks, and we're just waiting for the patches to stage out to the servers.
Note Sun USA is on holiday all next week, so if the patches aren't out this week they might not be out until after that.
(Also note that the zfs patches will surely require the 6/06 level of the Kernel Update patch, so applying the zfs patches when they are available will probably end up sucking in 80%+ of the change in 6/06 anyway. So it might be quicker to do the upgrade anyway...)
btw, what is the package name for zfs?
i read some where on open solaris that it would be like SUNWzfsu
but i can not find it any where on sunsolve.
does any one know where i can find it? or is it still not available also.
i upgrade to 6/6 and install the pacthes from sun update connections also, but doesnt seem to find zfs commands and features.
andy help / suggestions / guidance would be great
Thanks
Afzal
From my solaris 10 6/6 test server
slave# pkginfo | grep zfs
application SUNWzfsg ZFS Administration for Sun Java(TM) Web Console
systemSUNWzfskrZFS Kernel (Root)
systemSUNWzfsr ZFS (Root)
systemSUNWzfsu ZFS (Usr)
If you did upgrade to sol 10 6/6 ,the appropriate packages should have been installed.
What does you /etc/release file say.
