E4500 and SDLT 600 tape?

I'm looking to upgrade from my old DLT7000 tape for my E4500 server. I don't want a tape library/robot, just a high-capacity single drive. Could I use a SDLT 600 tape drive without needing a high-speed board?Thanks,Harry

I'm not sure, but as you assumed in your question, at least with decreased performance (a tape drive requires a constant data stream from the host).
We used an Ultrium drive (LVD) attached to the internal scsi controller (UW) of a F280R.
