Solaris 9 and V490's
I am attempting to jumpstart Solaris 9 9/04 patch level Generic_118558-28 onto a brand new V490 that uses the 1.5Ghz USIV+ processor. The OBP level is 4.18.1.
I am getting the error:
krtld: load_exec: fail to expand cpu/$CPU
krtld: error during initial load/link phase
panic - boot: exitto64 returned from client program
Program terminated
I have found some references that I must use Solaris 9 9/05 for this processor. I am also finding vague references that the OBP must be at 4.18.2.
Can anyone confirm if either of these conditions are true?

... classic error for an OS kernel that's too old for the hardware.
Contact Sun and open a support case.

Get the correct information directly from the manufacturer,
rather than hope for it from a public user-to-user discussion forum.
If the system shipped with OBP 4.18.1 then it will function with 4.18.1.
A newer firmware revision may be better, but it should at least boot,
once the correct OS release is used. For example, if you can
push the box through a DIAG POST completely, then the OBP is stable enough for now.
You will probably be informed that the new 1.5GHz US-IV+ processors require
a minimum Solaris release, and they'll be able to tell you which one(s).
