Unable to uninstall Java 1.3.1_05

I've got 2 Windows 2000 SP 4 servers that are running interface applications that utilize Java 1.3.1_05. I have to get it uninstalled and upgrade to 1.4 before October 24th for them to keep working. When I try to uninstall 1.3.1_05 in Add/Remove programs, I get what looks like an Installshield window that flashes up for literally half a second, then goes away. The Java entry in Add/Remove programs remains, but it's listed size changes slightly, and I have to reinstall 1.3.1_05 in order to get the interfaces working again. I'm reluctant to just install 1.4 in tandem, especially since it seems to me there must be something wrong if 1.3.1_05 won't come off cleanly. The weird thing is that I had no problems with this on my test server. I have tried stopping the interface services and even booting into safe mode with no luck. Has anyone seen this before or does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might try to get rid of 1.3.1_05? Thanks in advance.

That's a software question.

That's a MS Windows question, for installing and uninstalling something.

You posted it to a forum for Sun-branded computer hardware.

How you thought it should be here, is somewhat perplexing.

Try googling for "JRE forum".

You may find one here:
