SunFire v240 Graphics Accelerator Question

Pretty basic question.

How do I set it up and use it?

I am using a serial console, and XDM sessions for access to the server. The server came with a Sun XVR-100 Graphics Accelerator. I have installed the hardware and the software drivers say that it is built into Solaris 10 so I don't need to install. Then what? I have a usb keyboard and mouse too. Boot messages read that it reconizes the usb keyboard but no video? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sun keyboard and Sun mouse, I hope.

Not PeeCee peripherals.

Are there any zero-byte device instance files written to the /dev/fbs directory?

That would confirm whether the XVR-100 framebuffer is functional.

Here's a link to the OBP 4.x Command Reference Manual ( # 816-1177 ).

http://docs.sun.com/app/docs?q=816-1177

Get the PDF and save it for future reference.

I expect that among your configuration changes, you will

need to modify the OBP settings for input-device as well as for output-device.

Keep in mind that any and all diagnostic bootups

and emergency troubleshooting will revert back to the TTYa console.

Also, if you ever boot the system without the keyboard, console goes back to TTYa.

That's why the system was designed with ALOM and the serial setup.

It's a server that's to be rackmounted and just serve and serve and serve.

( ... my two pence of opinion ... )
