More V210 ALOM Bugs - LEDs don't work
Has Sun outsourced their manufacturing to Dell? 3 of the 7 V210s we have received lately have non-functional LEDs on the front panel. All LEDs are off.
The latest one, when I issue a "setlocator on" command from the SC> prompt, neither the front nor rear LEDs come on, and the "showlocator" command still shows "OFF". This makes me think it's software, not hardware, causing this.
Any ideas? In one system I have ALOM V 1.5.4, the others I had to rush to deploy in spite of the defects.

Uopn opening the system, the cable from the front bezel was not connected to the front sub-motherboard. Apprently no one QAs this stuff, although it could also be the fault of the dodgy reseller my boss insists on buying from. This is alleged to be a new system :-)
FWIW, with the front bezel cable unconnected, besides non of the front LEDs working, the rear panel locator LED will not come on, and set "setlocator ON" command will not change the result of the "showlocator" command.
With that hardware logic available to the ALOM, why not throw an error when the "setlocator on" command fails?

If this system is new, straight out of the box, then you should get sun
to investigate through the cpas procedure.
I used to work as a Quality Engineer for a contract electronics manufacturer
on the Sun Blade 1500 and know that Sun do take matters like this very seriously.
This then improves the quality delivered to everyone.

I concur.
Open a service case and request a C.P.A.S. on the system.
The service case will be forwarded to the local Field Customer Service Manager
and that person will decide if it's actually going to be done.
Even if that CSM declines to CPAS that individual system,
you'll have a chance to discuss the issue with the Service Engineer that calls you.
You'll have a chance to make comments about that reseller.
Sun does care whether their VAR's are doing their job properly.
It's Sun's reputation that's at stake here.
