HDD issues

We have sun box model E3500 with solaris 7 5/99.

one of HDD fail and we could not found the same model, the latest HDD does not support solaris 7 5/99 ( for partitioning and format ).

We tried to used solaris 7 11/99 for partitioning and formatting and its works but after we restore the original system backup in the HDD, the systems is not up. with this message " NO SUCH DEVICE".

But we can see the content of the HDD if we boot through the CDROM.

Your valuable suggestions really appreciated!

Thanks

Hello,

these are FC-AL disks. Each disk has a unique WWN (World Wide Number). The contents of /dev/dsk and /dev/rdsk/ contains the now invalid links (with old WWN of the replaced disk).

Do a reconfiguration boot (boot -rsv) to rebuild the device tree.

Alternatively you can try to rebuid the device links just for the disks with disks. (devfsadm is unavailable in Solaris 7, it was introduced with Solaris 8).
