CPU install

I have installed a new CPU board in a v480 but the system does not recognize it. Both CPU boards are 900mHz and I have upgraded the firmware to 4.17.1. The system tries to boot but after the only indications I get are a solid maintenance light and a flashing locator light. After waiting for more then 40 minutes the system still does not come up. Any suggestions to fix this problem. Thank you.

Check the Installation forum. I have posted a reply there.

this is a hardware problem, not a software problem... please try to keep responses in the right forum... since there are no moderators, use common sense when choosing a forum area to post questions.haroldkarl

Hi,What does a showboards or a showcomponent output tell you ?Does it say that the board is ok or does it give some other status ?Regards,Nico

Was this a new board, or was it a cull that had been sitting in storage for some time?

Is there any RAM on the new board?

What are the part numbers on the cpu boards ?

(... the known, good, previous board plus this new questionable one) ?

Can the V480 pass POST if you only have the new board installed ?

Can it boot if board-A is in position B and board-B is in position A ?

V480 and V880 systems can use the same boards.

However, you cannot mix cpu architecture types in either server.

UltraSPARC-III 900MHz cannot be mixed with UltraSPARC-III+ 900MHz.

Early V880's shipped with 750MHz and 900MHz US-III boards

(silicon-on-aluminum-substrate),

then ever since the copper substrate modules were introduced,

the boards have been made with US-III+ cpus.

I'm just wondering if this upgrade happened to be using an

older board that had been pulled from a V880.
