Netra T1 105 Installation

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to connect Netra T1 105 server to my laptop and use hyperterminal at 9600 8-N-1 settings.I have used Sun's 530-2889-03 connector attached to my laptop DB25 db port and RJ45 connected to Netra's serial link port.

I am not able to see any login prompt. I need to install a fresh copy of Solaris 8 on the server and then install Oracle DB .

Please help me out if something is missing in the configuration I am using.

Thanks,

Harman

You may have an issue with the communication device on the notebook. Normally the notebook would be configured to communicate with COM1 port ( the DB9 interface ). The DB25 adapter you mentioned is for connecting the serial port on a Sun workstation or server to the t1 105, I don't think a PC DB25 interface uses the same communication protocol.

Thanks for replying.

I have tried using DB9 port on the laptop using a DB9 RJ45 cable along with an adaptor(see http://www.pcconnection.com/ProductDetail?Sku=408550).

But Hyperterminal gives garbage values.

I am not understanding what I am missing or what is basically required to connect to netra server and do OS installation.

Thanks,

Hello Harman,

please review TABLE 6-1 Pin Cross-overs for Connecting to a Typical Terminal Server on page 54 of the Netra t1 User and Administration Guide.

The RJ45-DB9 and RJ45-DB25 adapters are very "nice". With a few of these adapters every systems with a serial port can be controlled.

To get a cross-over cable a DTE (sometimes marked Terminal) adapter, a DCE (somtimes marked Modem) adapter and a standard RJ45 patch cable is required. The Netra t1 105 uses a RJ45 jack for the console port, this means only the Sun supplied RJ45-DB25/DB9 adapter and the RJ45 patch cable is required.

The CISCO console cable 72-3383-01 has the same pinout as per the Table 6-3 Pin Cross-overs for a DB9 Adapter section of the Netra t1 User And Administration Guide. i.e. allows direction connection from Netra RJ45 console port to a PC (or Ultra 10 ttyb) serial port.

Just mentioned it as the CICSO console cables seem more easially available, e.g. from ebay

Thanks for your help.

Well I managed to get Sun recommended blue cable to connect to the console and I can now login using Hyperterminal and SecureCRT.

The next thing is to wipe out the server clean and install Sun Solaris 8 .Please guide me any documentation and path to be followed for Solaris Install.

Is it installed in GUI mode or test mode? If GUI , then is it possible to get GUI through serial connection. If yes ,how?

Thanks ,

Harman
