SGD and Fedora core 5

I'm using SGD version 4.20.983 and when I try to log into SGD I get an error message that reads "failed to install the Tarantella Client Component" the classic desktop works fine. Anyone else run into this? Any Ideas on how to resolve? All help is appreciated, thanks

What java version is installed on the client? It should be 1.4.2 or higher.Which OS is the client running?- Remold @ Everett

I'm using java 1_5_08 on the server/client . More detail, I have Solaris 10 and Fedora core 5 running on VMware workstation. When I try and access sgd from solaris running from fedora, it works, however, If i try and launch sgd locally from fedora , it fails. Also, if I use solaris as the server and try and launch sgd from fedora, it also fails with the same error. It seems to be an issue locally to fedora. Its not a show-stopper but I was just wondering if anyone had any Ideas,

Thanks

A possible work around could be to install the SGD native client on the fedora client and test it agian. I have noticed that installing the tnc provide extra services for a *nix environment. I don't know exactly why this will help.Remold @ Everett

I was wondering if anyone had found a solution for this problem, becuase I am experiencing the same issue. I am able to log in to the classic webtop, but the regular webtop gave me the "failed to install Tarantella Client Component" error. I would like to use the webtop as compared to the native client or the classic webtop, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

make sure that you can install /execute as the user you are logged into your client. If you don't have permissions to install/execute you could see that message.

You can also see if you can run the client from command line

I manually changed permissions in the .tarantella directory and sub directories to 777, and the client component still failed to install. I can't run it from the command line, becuase it's not there, it looks like the ttatcc binary never makes it from the server to the client. The folders are created; I have the .tarantella/tcc/4.20.983 folder, but it's empty. It also looks like the TCCHelper applet gets started, but as soon as it does, I get the error...

Hi All, I am also experiencing this issue.

A little info on what I'm running:

Just upgraded to Fedora 7 x86_64; installed 32 bit Firefox and the Sun JDK 6 update 1 (both 32 and 64 bit versions); created a sym link to the Java plugin for Firefox (this is the reason for 32 bit JDK and Firefox, as there is no 64 bit plugin as of yet).

Other Java web apps are working fine, but I'm getting the same issue described above when trying to log into SGD at work. Classic webtop works fine however.

I thought it may have been an issue with the version of Java shipped with Fedora 7, but I put the Sun bin directory in my path before the ready installed version of Java, and I'm still getting the error.

Same as stated by the previous poster: .tarantella directory is created fine, but nothing is in it.

If anyone else has experienced this problem, any additional help/ideas would be great.

Thanks,

Joe

Fedora 7 has not been tested with SGD yet, but you should at least use version 4.31.905 to test.

You do not have to worry about installing Java on the server side, that is handled by SGD.

is this failing for root and non-root users as well?

do you have a firewall blocking port 5307 (initial connections are always secure from 4.30 on).

I'll give that version a try on my Nevada Machine at home to test and let you know, I'm not sure which version we use currently here at work.

I had the same problem with FC6 as well, but I was only running that for a short while before Fedora 7 was released (after switching from Ubuntu, in which case everything worked fine :)

This is happening for both my regular and root users, both have sufficient privileges on the directories needed.

I'll have to check the port situation, this is a fresh install.

Thanks, I'll report back with any tests done.
