Can't login as Administrator after install

I have just installed SGD 4.2 and I cannot login as Administrator with my root password. I am using RHEL 4 (running on VMWare) and have installed two times with the same result. When I login with username "Administrator" and the root password I get the error message "invalid credentials". I am trying to login through internet explorer on an XP Machine, I do have the 4.2 native client installed also.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

You can perform the steps from the following link.

http://docs.sun.com/source/819-4309-10/en-us/base/gettingstarted/admin_adding.h tml

The objectmanager can be started from an xterm with the command:

/opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella objectmanager &

Futher make sure that the unix login authority is enabled. This can be done via:

/opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella stop

/opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella config edit --login-unix-user 1

/opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella config edit --login-unix-group 1

/opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella start

More info: http://docs.sun.com/source/819-4309-10/en-us/base/indepth/disabled_all_login_au thorities.html

Try "root" as the user. This is possible after a standard installation, also any user unix user must be able to get a webtop session.

Did you changed the root-password to a simple one, like "abc123". Possibly you have a keyboard problem.

also you can increase the log factility. this will show you what login facilities will be checked.

Run tarantella arraymanager from an Xterm, Enter login/*/*:xlogin.log in the log tab. You will get /opt/tarantella/var/log/xlogin.log as a file.

Are there any ajustments to the pam module?

I MUST say i have exactly the same problem. I just do a fresh install on a RHEL3 which i understand is a supported platform and still, ther is no way i can login using the Administrator, the password is quite simple "12345678". What can go wrong?

Hello,

I have experienced the same problem and we have found out that the login as Administrator (or root) with Version 4.20.977 doesn磘 work. We have tried on three machines with different Operating Systems (FC3, FC 5 and RHE4). We have uninstalled then the 4.20.977 and installed 4.20.959 and it works great!

Please post any news or workarounds about that here..

Regards

Matthias

We had the same problem. No root access after upgrade. Noticed when rejoining an array of upgraded SGD servers. The workaround for us was to use an existing account, a member of the administrators group, who was set to authenticate with RSA SecurID. This worked...

Tip:

/opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella object list_attributes --name ".../_ens/o=Tarantella System Objects/cn=Global Administrators" | grep rolemember

Hello,

I have again tried a fresh install of 4.20.977 and I have tried to create a user and add this user into the Global Admin group.

Adding the user worked fine, but when I wanted to add the user into the Admin Group Tarantella keeps telling me that I can't add users to a group... So this workaround also doesn磘 work when you don磘 have a user already somwhere in the Admin group (either in an Array or by making an upgrade to 977).

We've had exactly the same experience here; does anyone who has phone support with Sun know if they're aware of and addressing this problem? (We're on the academic "updates and upgrades, no phone support" plan here...)Thanks,Andy
