frequent network interruptions
Our Sun Blade workstations running Solaris 5.8 have been experiencing network interruptions, resulting in unavailable internet service except intranet. PCs on the same network appear ok somehow. The interrupt lasts a few minutes occasionally. When it occurs, the on-campus workstation also becomes unaccessible from off-campus. The interrupts do not occur consistently from machine to machine. The network used to be okay. Any help is appreciated.

Ever find anything out? My first suspect would be another machine trying to appropriate IP addresses that belong elsewhere, or a machine trying to take over control of NIS+ or the like that shouldn't have control, but it would be pretty difficult to diagnose without some snooping.

The original poster happened to have cross-posted
the same question to another forum on the same original day.
There was another contribution over there.
(plus a non-productive blurb from someone that didn't help at all)
