joining an iplanet mailing list

the iplanet 5.2 Provisioning Guide talks about the management of various types of lists. One example is the ability to join a list

I don't see any information on how one goes about joining a particular list after it has been set up. Like as in sending a message to

list-request@someplace.com with the body

subscribe list user@someplace.com

So where can one get further information on the "end user" aspect of iplanet managed lists?

There isn't actually any mechanism in our Messaging Server in either 5.2 or later, yet, to do this.You would have to roll your own.
