Messaging server not administered by Admin server SJES 2005Q4

Hi,

I have installed Admin server & Directory listening to a logical IP.

Later I install messaging on the same machine but listening to a different IP ...When I configure the messaging server ... the configure utility responds that the messaging server won't be administered by the admin server as messaging has differnt Ip/hostname than the Directory?

Why is it so?

How does the admin server know/decide which servers to administere....where is this written on Directory..which servers will be administered by a admin instance...Is it written in the Config of admin or messaging?

I checked the release noted of SJES2005Q4 it says there is an issue installing messaging server on a diferent machine ... is this same as my problem?

Rather than worry about the Admin Console, I suggest you accept that the Console is of little use, and just ignore it.The next version (Messaging 6.3) will not have an Admin Console at all, and is due out in the next few months.

Take Jay's advice. Do not use the console for managing the messaging server. I have found out that if you make any changes in the console that require the server to restart, the mail processes will not stop. They timeout and you have to do a kill -9 on the process to get them to stop. This is very bad and can cause all kinds of problems for you. Support has confirmed that this is a bug and they told me not to use the admin console.

Hi jay,I have schema 1 for SJES 2005Q4 - so will use iDA old DA.In the installation of old DA it will ask for a Admin server which manages messaging...that is why I require it...otherwise I do not use admin server at allthanks

I think you're confusing the Directory Admin Server with the Messaging Admin Server. You don't even have to install the Messaging Admin Server. You may not have done so.If you installed it, you may not have started it.
