Server Sizing

Hi1. How i have to do do server sizing ? Is there any books or LINKS whichguide us to do the sizing ?Thanks in Advance

Hi,

Server sizing is not straight forward as there are any number of dependencies, especially disk I/O related parameters (which most people ignore) and various types of configurations.

What exactly are you trying to 'size' for (products, simultaneous users, services offered)?

Server Sizing - Here i'm planning to size the users.

1. I want to learn the things related to messaging that is i want to predict

that the particular type of server such as V440,V490 suports how many

mail user connections?

i think this things depends upon hardwares like RAM,CPU etc...

2. How we have to design the Project Architecture according to Customer

needs.

Actually, the things you need to consider for sizing aren't JUST the number of users, but also their mail habits.

If you're POP only, then storage size isn't so important, as POP users download and delete all their mails.

IMAP/Webmail users keep mail on the server.

You need to consider how many messages per day they send and receive, how large those messages are, and how many of your users connect at one time.

Neither Shane nor I are really expert with sizing. We're Support folks, and our experience is mostly fixing broken servers. The folks that do sizing are our sales engineers. They have access to the spreadsheets and such that we don't
