multiple addressbooks

Hi,

I'm running Messaging Server:

iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 HotFix 2.09 (built Nov 18 2005)

libimta.so 5.2 HotFix 2.09 (built 10:35:58, Nov 18 2005)

SunOS gabriel.cc.oberlin.edu 5.9 Generic_112233-12 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R

Over the past few weeks, we've been working to upgrade our two Multi-Master Replicating LDAP servers from iPlanet version 5.1 SP2 to version 5.2 SP4.This past Friday evening, we shutdown the mail server and both LDAP servers, to address some replication issues on the two LDAP servers. Since performing this work on Friday evening, some of our users began reporting that their Messenger Express address books had disappeared.

But in investigating this, I found that the users now have multiple addressbooks stored in LDAP: their populated ones, and newly created empty ones. Apparently they're now seeing the empty ones.

Can anyone offer advice on how to resolve this problem? If I delete the empty addressbooks, will these users start to see the populated ones again? Do I need to migrate their old entries to the new addressbooks? Why do some users appear to have this problem, but others don't? (Were the "problem users" perhaps logged in when we shut things down?).

Thanks for any advice.

You will want to examine the differences between where the old, populated AB is and the new, empty ones.I suspect you may find that they're different, in which case, the "new" one is now correct. If they're the same, then simply removing the empty ones should fix

Thanks for replying, Jay. Can you please explain what you mean by looking at "where the old AB is located"?Thanks.

From your comments, I'm guessing you've not examined your Directory Server or the Access logs. . .

If you have a user where the old address book works, have that user search for an entry. Examine the Access log, and note the search, and results.

Then do the same with one that's not working.

Then use the Directory Console to examine that branch of the Directory. Comment on what you find there.
