Modifying WEBMail behaviour

Is there a way to modify Webmail behaviour when Forwarding emails? By default when you forward email the forwarded email is attached to email as file. I would like to be able to modify it's behaviour so when you do Forward it behaves like when you use Replay option.. attaching msg to the end of the msg.

Hope everything is clear in my question. It's kinda hard to explain ;)

Fleibo

Version?Since webmail has changed with the version, basically, all I can do is ask you for that.In any case, it's unlikely that this behavior can be changed.

Hi Fleibo,

Forwarding emails is supposed to attach the original message to the email. Why would you want to change the behaviour which is common across just about all email clients? This is no doubt going to cause even more confusion for your users in the future (training them into bad/inconsistent habits). Perhaps a better idea is to advise your users to use the Reply button instead.

Shane.

Thank You both for answer.

Well It's not like i wanted that behaviour change, but one of users did. I told him that it's probably not possible but for my knowledge i wanted to ask if it realy isn't :) Actually some clients attach it as files and some do it like on "replay", just like you said. I prefer the replay way but i hardly forward emails ;) Thanks!

I respectfully disagree. By default, Outlook, and other clients, insert the original inline in your forward. This is compatible and simple, and it works. It prevents confusion and does not leave an attached file laying around on the server. Moreover, I don't know where you get the idea that forwarding a message with the original inline is a "bad habit." In my opinion, this is a perfectly legitimate request.

Hi John,

I was a bit hasty with my "bad habit" call - mea culpa. By default Outlook does insert the original inline (although this is not the case with Mozilla Thunderbird which I pretty much use exclusively - this behaviour is configurable though) and indeed this person is not the first to ask for a 'forward inline' feature. To that end there is a 'forward inline' option with UWC. The odds of having the feature back-ported to Messenger Express is slim to none.

So getting back to the original request, I don't know of any way to achieve this behaviour with Messenger Express interface - it appears to require some significant code changes.

Shane.

Thanks for the reply Shane. I agree that adding or back-porting this option is probably not high on the list of priorities. I think the confusion for some users, like those who use Outlook, is that some of them expect to see something in the textfield when they select the forward option. It's not a huge issue, but it would be nice to allow the user to select what works best in there specific environment.

Cheers,

John
