still having problems
Hi Jay,
I installed DS 5.2 on a new machine. I ran comm_dssetup.pl against the new DS. No errors reported.
I ran the messaging 6.2 configiration script on the mail server (different box) and I am getting one error.
FAILED: /opt/SUNWmsgsr/lib/ldapmodify -h perl.mydomain.ab.ca -p 389 -D cn=Directory Manager -j /opt/SUNWmsgsr/lib/config-templates/cfgdir54253 -c -e /opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/cfgdir.ldif.rej
The rest of the tasks complete sucessfully.
my access log for the ldap server is loaded with error 32's.
Since this is a completly fresh install of DS I am not sure what to make of it.
What else would you need me to post that may help figure this out? The logs are quite big so I don't know that you would want me to post them
If I try to start the messaging server I get the same error that I had before in that it can't retrieve it's configuration.

Hi Jay,
Ok this is what I have done. I took my 22oR and completly rebuilt it. Formatted all drives and reinstalled Solaris 9.
Installed DS5.2P4 and set it up as the config and user/group server.
Ran the comm_dssetup.pl against it with no errors reported.
On my Sunfire (existing mail server) I ran the configure script for the 6.2Q4 messaging system. The configure ran fine with the exception of that one error that I mentioned before that you said I didn't need to worry about. Once the configuration was done I attempted to start the messagaing server and again recieved the following error:
[24/Jul/2006:13:37:32 -0600] onyx [2279]: General Error: func=_configdrv_pset_fetch;error=could not access server's configuration in ldap: func=psetRealCreate; error=Entry does not exist
NO configmsg_init error
[24/Jul/2006:13:37:32 -0600] onyx [2281]: General Error: func=_configdrv_pset_fetch;error=could not access server's configuration in ldap: func=psetRealCreate; error=Entry does not exist
ERROR: Could not initialize config system
Obviously at some point it wasn't able to create some entries in the ldap server but when no errors are reported it makes it pretty tough to figure out! I don't know what else to try. I have been beating this to death for weeks and have made no progress at all. I figured a completly new directory server install on a new box would solve it but I am getting the same error that I was getting all along.

A little more info that may help you figure this one out. After this latest failure I went back into the console and there is nothing under the o=NetscapeRoot or o=internet for the Messaging 6.2 server.
It would appear that the configuration was unable to write anything to the ldap. Since it was a fresh install using cn=Directory Manager and the correct password I'm at a loss to explain this.

The error message you show says that the Messagin gServer can't even get to the config ldap.
If the config ldap doesn't contain any data under o=NetscapeRoot, I wonder what happened during the configure step. YOur ldap server should have a whole bunch of access log entries from doing that step....

Hi Jay,
Just wanted to let you know we got it working. Turns out the problem was that the enterprise intstaller was seeing a copy of the adminsitration server so it wouldn't allow me to install a new copy. The old copy is gone but it still thinks it is there. Because of that it wouldn't update the netscape root with the server info.
After some creativity on the part of tech support we got it running and once I do the final cut over we should be able to get a new administration server installed so I can get the console working.
Anyway, all is good!!
