Not impressed at all. Shamed or what?

Hi All,

I purchased an authentic windows operating system from staples. I brought it home after paying a weeks wages for the program, and 6 months wages for all the other programs I needed for college in computer science and Internet web desigh and other certifications etc. I spent litterally many thousands of dollars, loaded everything, and everything worked great for over a year until I decided to take a class that required java applications etc. When I downloaded java for my desktop, my browser began to crash and close any time I try to download java for a desktop and JVM. I then tried to go to my college class web site made with java and cannot view the sylabus or assignments because all my browsers crash and close without notice.

I found that for whatever reason, java may have tagged my MS xp pro edition of windows as not being authentic and won't allow java applications or downloads or to view anything with java. I reformatted and reinstalled everything and sure enough it happened again. I called Microsoft and validated that my OS is authentic. I then called Sun today and was told that even though this is a somewhat common problem, I would have to pay Sun for support to fix my operating system, even though Sun attacked my OS inadvertantly . This certainly turned my appreciation for java into something very unadmirable and dishonest on Suns part if they are going to attack or highjack mine and others operating systems and then basically force me to pay a ransom to make my system work properly with java. I even asked Java tech support about how often this happens and was told that this is a common problem and Sun wants us to pay for the problems they caused. I was told that regardless of whos fault it was, I had to pay money for Java to assist in fixing the way they attacked my computer in the first place.

This is very disturbing and cost me a passing grade for my first assignment in my java college course. I sure learned one thing, and that is that if this is a common problem, then isn't it crossing the threshold of complete dishonesty on Sun's part and brings up a lot of questions at to just how many other people are scammed the same way and just how much of the money made by java in this way accounts for thier income every quarter?

If a common person like you or I went atround attacking operating systems, then tried to force someone through mental anguish or fear to pay me to repair the authentic operating systems, it would be called a lot more rash legally, and whoever tried this would end up behind bars.

I can't find a solution anywhere, maybe I am in the wrong place or java would rather me pay the ransom before I can use windows to it's full potential? One thing is for sure, I'm not paying a ransom to any company who inadvertanly highjacks operating sytems for money regardless of how big or well known the company is.

Anyone have any advise as to how to fix this without paying a ransom or using paid support? I only have a few days before my next assignment is due. Does Microsoft have thier owh solutions for this uhh, Hmmm Hmmm, problem?

Wrong forum.

Glance at the top of the page for the Java Desktop System forum.

It describes JDS for you:

" Sun Java Desktop System is a fully integrated, comprehensive, and secure desktop environment that offers a simplified user interface with familiar desktop themes and file manager views. Among its components are a GNOME desktop environment; StarOffice Office Productivity Suite; Mozilla browser; Evolution mail and calendar; Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE platform); and a Linux operating system. "

... it's not java running in Windows.

Perhaps you might consider having your school associates assist you with whatever you downloaded.
