Javascript turned off...

When I visit Youtube I get this error every time I click on a video. Help would be greatly appreciated! I go to IE, tools, internet options, advanced and it shows the Java button checked.

Hi! I sure hope someone answers your question, because I'm having the exact same problem. It seems to have started after I began using RegScrub. I know that it must delete my Flash b/c it's there when I first download it, and disappears after a scrub. On the list of problems to fix post-scrub, nothing appears to match from Adobe or Flash so I can't tell it to leave that program alone. Anyway, have been on the MSN Rock Star Supernova site within the past two weeks and it ran fine. After that, no go. If I download the Flash program, it then says that I must have my Java script turned off. I did what they said and looked for it under Int. Opts. and connections, but they don't tell me what I'm looking for there. LOL I've even tried putting MSN in as a default browser, but that didn't work either. HEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPP please. Where do I find the Java Script? How do I make sure it's on? Does it have anything to do with beans? Thanks for any feedback!

No one will answer your question in this forum.

This is the Sun Java Desktop forum,

not a javascript forum for desktop computers.

See the paragraphs at the top of the forum's page of topics?

Since you didn't read them, we'll quote them here, again:

"Sun Java Desktop System is a fully integrated, comprehensive, and secure desktop environment that offers a simplified user interface with familiar desktop themes and file manager views. Among its components are a GNOME desktop environment; StarOffice Office Productivity Suite; Mozilla browser; Evolution mail and calendar; Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE platform); and a Linux operating system."

This JDS forum has nothing to do with Microsoft Windows

or how something functions when you use MS Windows.

Hint: if Javascript or JRE is not in Add/Remove Programs of Control Panel, then go install it.

It won't work if it's not installed.

Google could help you find it.

Google could have found a "javascript forum" for you as well.

Sorry to have, obviously, bothered you. Won't happen again. Just so you know, I had already searched on the Java web-site, searched through my programs list in CP and tried several other things to figure out this problem before asking for help.. Most computer people I've found to be very helpful and willing to help others to learn. Guess you're not one of those, or you sure didn't come across as one. I will, however, take your so condescendingly delivered advice and try the Google search you've suggested. By the way, just saying you suggest a Google search for the info needed, would have been quite enough. Some of us would really like to know more about our computers, and try to learn. I'm glad some people are willing to teach. I hope you, though, are not in customer service or working in that capacity. Thanks again.

I don't know if Rakbat is a person or automated reply, but I can certainly understand why confusion over the name "java" might lead you here. I'll try to explain:

Java Desktop System(TM): An alternative to Microsoft Windows, developed by Sun.http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/jds/

The Java(TM) programming language, developed by Sun. It allows developers to create programs which will run on everything from a mobile phone to a desktop P.C. to a Sun server. Some Microsoft Windows computers don't have this preinstalled.

Javascript:Is a scripting language which runs within web browsers. It's confusing, but Javascript has nothing to do with Sun or the Java programming language. There are settings in most browsers to enable Java and Javascript separately.

Java Desktop System uses Mozilla or Firefox browsers, which are faster, less virus prone alternatives to Internet Explorer. Very few of us ever use Internet Explorer, so you may know more about it than I do. Look for a "enable javascript" setting somewhere in the preferences.

I don't know anything about RegScrub, but it sounds like this program did the damage, so if I were you, I'd start with RegScrub's customer contact number or forum. If that doesn't help, try to contact Microsoft's customer support or search on their forums. Internet Explorer, it's embedded Javascript interpretor and Microsoft Windows are all products of Microsoft. I have occasionally used Microsoft Windows and find that it is very prone to adware, viruses and worms. Once a bit of adware has installed itself, even Microsoft's security patches can cause you to lose internet connectivity or other services.

Java Desktop System is already a useful alternative to Microsoft windows for some applications. I hope a popular internet service provider will eventually consider delivering their services via Sun's Java Desktop System instead of Microsoft Windows and Sun Ray(Tm) thin client terminals instead of desktop PCs. What you would see is a quiet, energy efficient way of accessing the internet which won't require you to install anti-virus software, registry cleaners, adware removers or perform any other maintainance.

This is a little more long-winded than I intended, but I hope it helps.

Thank you, b.nitz,

That information may help others in the future,

but then again, people will often not read what's right in front of them.

My earlier response included a link to a google search

for the history of javascript specofocally because the search-results show

how NETSCAPE's "Livescript" is the source of it, not Sun Microsystems.

Their frustration on finding something in a Sun hosted forum is because ...

Javascript is notr a Sun product (strictly speaking).

In the same fashion, my link to a google search for a javascript forum

also shows many web sites that are much more appropriate for their inquiries.

Hi B.. Hey, thanks for writing back on this issue. Your answer was very informative. I never realized that there was such a difference between IE and other browsers. I'll be looking into that further. I'm always glad to learn something new. Thanks for taking the time! I still haven't quite figured out what to do about the javascript problem, but am sure I'll get there eventually. Take care.
