REXEC

new install of v210 with 5.10 and I am trying to connect from winxp using exceed/rexec and get an error "unable to connect to host using the specified start emthode" . Exceed support indicated that I need to set up REXEC on the server side. I am a new admin so please provide as many details as you can or at least set me on the correct path.

Thanks.

rexec is not recommended. Much better would be to use XDMCP (which exceed supports) or a direct login (like ssh) followed by launching the client.in.rexecd is normally configured in inetd.conf.-- Darren

Darren:

Thanks for the info and I am using XDMCP with no error to get to CDT. the error I am getting is when I try to use a exceed xstart session to go directly to the box and by-pass the CDT. On solaris 10, the inetd.conf file indicates that it is no longer the place to add the in.rexecd configuration? what do you think?

Well, you can try svcadm enable rexec. But as the previous poster said, rexec is a deprecated and insecure protocol. You really would be better off finding something else to use.
